My volunteer story began in December 2014. Accidentally coming across the website of the "Nova Generacija" Association, I was immediately interested in what it was about, what attracted me in the first moment was the association's very idea of protecting children at risk through various programs, my decision was to fill out the application form for volunteering and to join the "Day Center" program. Soon I received an invitation to interview with the psychologists of the Day Care Center and within a few days I was informed that I had been accepted.
I will always remember my first volunteer day, what I didn't know was that the volunteer team was mostly made up of girls, so when the children saw the boy they were quite surprised but also in a way delighted because little D. immediately said to me "Oh, great now I have a volunteer that I can play football with." I was very happy that I was very well received by the children on the first day and that continued throughout the further course of volunteering, I was simply myself and relaxed without any prejudices as I should with children.
At no point have I regretted being a Day Center volunteer, because I think this is the best way to use free time, because knowing that you are the reason why a child laughed or achieved some success is indescribable. I intend to continue being a volunteer at the Day Care Center and hope to be even more successful in working with children.
